“Radiolarian Impulse” Collaboration

Professor Dustyn Martincich and I staged a project in the Fall of 2012 called “Radiolarian Impulse” that integrated my Sculpture 1 students and her dance students.  This collaboration was based on the mutual investigation of radiolaria: microscopic sea organisms that produce intricate mineral skeletons as complex and varied as snowflakes. The students studied the physical form of radiolarian skeletons, read related fiction, and then produced dances and sculptures that revealed their individual interpretations. The final result of this effort was displayed as a prelude to the Fall Dance Concert.
